In the United States, the Global Children’s Initiative is seeking to advance by implementing a compelling research, public engagement and professional leadership development programs in child health and development from institutions around the world. (Harvard University, 2013) The global program will focus on three strategic areas:
· Reframing the discourse around child health and development in the global policy arena by educating high-level decision-makers about the underlying science of learning, behavior, and health, beginning in the earliest years of life.
· Supporting innovative, multi-disciplinary research and demonstration projects to expand global understanding of how healthy development happens, how it can be derailed, and how to get it back on track.
· Building leadership capacity in child development research and policy—focused on both individuals and institutions—in low- and middle-income countries to increase the number and influence of diverse voices and perspectives that are contributing to the growing global movement on behalf of young children.
The Global Children’s Initiative has also begun to build a portfolio of activities in three domains:
· Early childhood development
· Child mental health
· Children in crisis and conflict situations.
Each of these domains is being guided by professionals along with additional faculty, students, and agents beyond the Harvard community. The Harvard University’s the “Global Children’s Initiative will also benefit young children and their families outside the United States.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteGreat post, I felt relevance to these domains as well. I feel that they best represent the “whole child” along with their needs. Assessing children on social well-being, health, mental development and others are solely beneficial in causing the child to become more successful in the classroom. If these three domains are initiated on a daily basis whereby the classroom or in a school setting than the amount of helping these children “globally” can change and enhance society.

It would be wonderful if the United STates did concentrate on childrenand their overall development as stated in the articles children would get a better chance at life no matter their economic background.
ReplyDeleteHi Ida,
ReplyDeleteGreat post. You provided a great overview of what the Global Children's Initiative does to help children all over the world. It is great that America is helping the less fortunate children become educated. The three domains that they are focusing on actually focuses on the child as a whole. They are not only seeking to educate the children but are concerned about the physical, emotional, and help with crisis they are facing.
Keep up the good work. I enjoy reading your posts.
Ida,
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job outlining the information in this article. I too chose the same article. I found the information on how they are working to increase opportunities for education in areas that have been hard hit with disasters and health problems from HIV/AIDS to Malaria is very interesting and hopefully they will become a more established program and receive the funding they need.
